Dalaguete is a 2nd class municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. It is bounded on the north by the municipality of Argao, on the west by the municipalities of Badian and Alegria, on the south by the municipality of Alcoy and on the east by Cebu Strait.
“COMO SE LLAMA ESTE LUGAR?” or “What’s the name of this place?” asked, according to the folklore, a group of curious Spanish soldiers who first chanced upon some women washing clothes where grew giant dalakit trees, who replied, “Dalakit, Dalakit.” Thus was christened this municipality of Dalaguete. As to the establishment of centuries - old buildings and structures here, dates maybe perceived indelibly etched on their facades and walls.
The Dalaguete town proper (Poblacion) has become a beehive of business activity. Farm to market roads crisscross the hinterlands to facilitate movement of agricultural products. Aside from the professionals or those who have undergone formal college education, farming and fishing are predominantly the people’s major means of livelihood. Dalaguete also has its share of overseas workers many of whom are seafarers worldwide, and some professionals, factory workers and domestic helpers in Taiwan, Hongkong, Saudi, Italy, USA, etc.
The main industries of Dalaguete are farming, agriculture, fishing and mining.

Dalaguete is situated in the southeastern coast of Cebu and is about 85 kilometers from Cebu City. The municipality is bounded on the north by the municipality of Argao, on the west by the municipalities of Badian and Alegria, on the south by the municipality of Alcoy and on the east by Cebu Strait.
Dalaguete can be reached by public buses or V-Hires (vans) from the Cebu South Terminal in Cebu City with an estimated travel time of about 2 hours.
Dalaguete is also called “Summer Capital of Cebu”. Mantalongon, a hinterland barangay some 14 kilometers up the scenic mountains, is popular with its cool climate even during summer. In fact, it is the most popular of all barangays in Dalaguete. The name itself is already synonymous with high value crops especially vegetables and flowers. With its pleasant climate all year round, many city folks and other out-of-towners come in droves during summer to escape the sweltering heat in the lowlands.
