Created as a parish on August 19, 1851 in keeping with the decree of June 16 of the same year, Carmen, a visita of Catmon, chose as patron Saint Agustin, bishop and doctor. The church is described as having a base of rubble mortar but with upper members of wood and tabique. It was thatched with grass.
